With the German general election set for Sunday, 23rd February, a substantial number of voters remain undecided, increasing the likelihood of last-minute changes that could impact the final outcome, reports Politico on Wednesday, 19th February.
A YouGov poll conducted for the German Press Agency indicates that 20% of potential voters will decide whom to vote for in the final days before the election. This includes 7% who stated they would make their choice on polling day itself.

The survey highlights that traditional news sources continue to be the primary means of electoral information. Some 63% of voters rely on television, newspapers, radio, and online news portals to stay informed about the elections.
The influence of social media on voter decisions varies significantly depending on political affiliation. Overall, 27% of voters use platforms such as Facebook, X, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube for election-related information.

However, social media dependency is notably higher among supporters of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD), with 40% of its voters relying on such platforms. Similarly, 43% of those backing the far-left Left Party depend on social media for their electoral insights.
By contrast, only 13% of voters supporting the centre-right Christian Democratic Union/Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) bloc use social media for election updates.
While 26% of voters say that the final weeks of campaigning have influenced their decision, 38% had already made up their minds about whom to vote for in Sunday’s election, according to the poll. With many voters still uncertain, the final days of campaigning could prove crucial in shaping Germany’s next government.
