जहानाबाद लोकसभा चुनाव 2024: राजनीतिक विश्लेषण और ऐतिहासिक परिप्रेक्ष्य

Jehanabad, a district in Bihar, known for its Naxal influence, is considered sensitive from a security standpoint. This region has witnessed several Naxal attacks and is part of the Naxal corridor. The Jehanabad Lok Sabha constituency has long been a stronghold of the Left. Over the years, candidates from the Congress and Janata Dal have also won from here. Since 1998, this seat has seen a tradition of changing MPs in every election.

Jehanabad has historically been a bastion of the Congress and later the CPI. The CPI has won this seat six times, with CPI leader Ramashray Prasad Singh representing Jehanabad in Lok Sabha for four terms. However, the political scenario shifted in 1998 when the RJD opened its account by defeating Arun Kumar of the Samata Party. Since then, this seat has alternated between RJD and JD(U). In the 1999 election, Arun Kumar, contesting on JD(U) ticket, defeated the RJD candidate. In 2004, Ganesh Prasad Singh of RJD defeated Arun Kumar. However, in the 2009 elections, JD(U) won here with Jagdish Sharma defeating RJD’s Surendra Prasad Yadav. Dr. Arun Kumar, contesting with RLSP support, won for the second time from here in the Modi wave of 2014.
Jehanabad Lok Sabha constituency comprises parts of Jehanabad and Arwal districts in South and West Bihar. The total number of voters in this constituency is 1,276,912, consisting of 680,766 male voters and 596,146 female voters.
This constituency encompasses six assembly segments – Arwal, Kurtha, Jehanabad, Ghosi, Atari, and Makhdumpur. The Makhdumpur seat is reserved for Scheduled Castes. These seats are spread across Jehanabad and Arwal districts. In the 2015 Bihar Assembly elections, RJD won four out of these six seats, while JD(U) won two.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, JD(U) candidate Chandeshwar Chandravanshi secured victory with 3,35,584 votes, while RJD’s Surendra Prasad Yadav secured the second position with 3,33,833 votes. BSP candidate Nityanand Singh received only 19,211 votes and stood third.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, RLSP’s Dr. Arun Kumar emerged victorious from this seat. Arun Kumar defeated the RJD candidate with a margin of 42,340 votes. Dr. Arun Kumar received 3,22,647 votes, whereas RJD’s Surendra Yadav received 2,80,307 votes. 10,352 voters opted for NOTA.
